Exhibition documents life and times of Freddie Mercury and Queen

From his childhood in India to his final music video, Queen - Life in Pictures charts the life and times of Freddie Mercury and Queen.

The photographic exhibition, comprising 66 historic photos, is on display at Auckland City Library until November 4.

The exhibition, which tours the world with the stage show We Will Rock You, offers a rare and intimate insight into the band and their many varied phases.

Former Rockstar INXS finalist and star of We Will Rock You, Mig Ayesa, caught up with nzherald.co.nz to talk about the exhibition and channeling Freddie Mercury.

* Queen - Life in Pictures is on display on level 1 and 2 of Auckland City Library on Lorne St, until Sunday, November 4.

* We Will Rock You, the musical by Queen and Ben Elton, which begins it's run tonight at the Civic Theatre, stars our own princess of pop Annie Crummer as lead character Killer Queen. Crummer has toured Australia and Japan with the production, and joins Mig Ayesa in the two main roles. Organisers stress this is not a Queen tribute, describing it instead as rock theatre featuring 24 Queen hits.
